9:30 AM to Noon City of Oakland Cultural Funding Grants & Public Art Programs (Hearing Rm 2)
Advice and assistance for artists and organizations who wish to apply for the City’s 2017-18 Cultural Funding Grants totaling nearly $1 Million. Applications will be due Monday, May 15, 2017; 5pm. Attendees will review the grant application, sample proposal narratives, best practices, learn more about the process and the minimum requirements needed to apply. The session will close with a presentation on the Public Art Program and how to prepare your portfolio for upcoming opportunities. Previous recipients will be invited to share their experiences. Cultural Affairs staff will also provide advice on the Philanthropic Landscape: public, local, state and federal opportunities; and private funders – including family, community and national foundations.

Be prepared to share events/opportunities you know about. Bring Swag and info to share.

1:30 – 4:00 PM Real Estate for Makers and Artists: Creative Solutions
What does it take to lease or buy a space for your Maker business or studio? What about shared leases or purchases? The Oakland Makers Real Estate working group will present creative solutions to co-investing and co-leasing work spaces that are industry specific, safe and more affordable. Small discussion groups will outline other solutions by industry and by financial readiness. Info about tenant leasing requirements, anticipating infrastructure and utilities needs for your maker activities, and reviewing alternative financing and investment structures will be covered.
